Triumph TR4 (1962)

Triumph TR4 1962

While most restorations are meant to preserve a classic sports car for years of storage and little driving, a few others are meant to create a perfect driver’s car that are better than new. This Powder Blue Triumph TR4 is among the latter. By its looks you could think the restoration was recently finished, but this only qualifies the high level of skills and craftsmanship that went into the project at the time and the love and care of its timekeeper afterwards.

The owner’s brother is the well known Triumph specialist Hans Kooy who convinced him in the late eighties to buy a solid ex-California shell as a starting point for a proper restoration. With no part untouched the owner set up the Triumph he wanted himself, with the original colour combination in mind. Technically and aesthetically only the best was good enough for both brothers. The full leather blue/white interior was completed with bespoke high-pile carpets and colour-matching mohair tonneau. Ever since this TR4 was finished in the mid-nineties the baby blue roadster was taken around Europe during great road trips.

Although the Triumph TR4 looks original inside and out the owner decided he wanted a couple of upgrades to make life easier. As a result, this TR proves that there’s nothing wrong with driving classic cars on longer trips as long as you’ll keep the car well maintained and dry stored in between those outings. During the restoration corrosion protection and rust proofing were done completely and thoroughly, which improved its durability by miles. The fast road camshaft and overdrive, together with some technical upgrades, like an alternator, made this Triumph more usable for long distance travelling and joyful mountain drives.

With the built-in Halda tripmaster and map light the car is able to join classic rally events too, which is a perfect way to explore the World together in a true British sports car like this. Because of the high standards during the restoration process even the suspension, drivetrain and seats still feel perfect nowadays, which makes it a pleasant companion for both driver and passenger. This fine early example of the Triumph TR4 is now available for a new owner who wants to enjoy the open roads for years to come with friends or family.
